If you're working in translation or localization, you know how crucial quality assurance is. Mistakes in your content can cost you time, money, and even client trust. That’s why more professionals are turning to automated solutions to catch issues early and improve workflows.
At Tomedes, we created a tool to help with exactly that. The Tomedes Translation Quality Assessment Tool (QA Tool) is designed to support your review process with the help of advanced AI. We recently asked our in-house team of native translators and QA specialists to test it and give us their honest feedback.
Now we’re sharing everything they found, so you can decide if this tool is right for your work.
The Tomedes QA Tool was built to give you instant insights into the quality of your translations. It uses advanced AI to rate your text based on fluency, accuracy, style, grammar, and terminology. Each category is scored separately so you know exactly what needs attention.
You can also detect common errors like untranslated content, incomplete segments, or incorrect translations. The tool highlights these issues in a visual dashboard so they’re easy to catch and fix. It even generates a bilingual glossary and runs consistency checks across your entire document.
We also made the experience barrier-free. There’s no login, no fees, and no limits on usage. Your data is processed securely and never stored long-term, making it a great option for professionals who need speed and confidentiality.
To truly understand how our QA Tool performs in real-world conditions, we asked our in-house native translators to put it to the test. These are seasoned professionals who work daily with complex content across industries like legal, medical, technical, and marketing.
Each translator ran the tool on projects they had previously reviewed manually. This gave them a chance to compare results and see whether the tool could catch the same issues, or even spot new ones.
They worked with different file types and language pairs, simulating the pressure of live translation environments. The goal was simple: find out if the tool could keep up with the high standards of professional translations.
Our reviewers put the Tomedes QA Tool through real-world tests, and came away impressed. Here are what some of them had to say about the tool:
One of the strongest features of the tool is how it identifies incorrect translations. The native translators noted that it consistently flagged segments that were semantically off or contextually wrong.
This feature was especially helpful for long documents where errors can easily slip through. According to our linguists, the QA Tool caught several mistakes that would have otherwise required a second human reviewer. For teams handling professional translation projects, this type of precision adds real value.
One of the translators we interviewed, Gillize Araujo, the Tomedes in-house Portuguese translator, shared how the QA Tool has transformed her workflow:
“As a translator, I can say the process demands a lot of mental effort, and even after reading the text several times, we can still miss some mistakes. The Tomedes QA tool doesn’t overlook any detail. It highlights missing or incorrect translations (showing the correct version) and also provides a really helpful consistency score. I use it daily in my work, and my deliveries have improved since then!”
Terminology consistency is a pain point for any translator, especially on large-scale jobs. The QA Tool was praised for its ability to catch inconsistent term usage across multiple pages. Our team tested this on a software manual and found that the tool flagged variations of key terms and gave a rating to it.
The built-in glossary generator was another hit. It helped extract critical terms and pair them with their translations, reducing the time needed for manual glossary creation. For those of you managing accurate translations across teams or vendors, this tool is a great way to avoid quality dips.
One of the tool’s unique features is that it runs on multiple AI engines. You can switch between ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek to compare their results side-by-side. This gives you different perspectives on the same content.
Interestingly, the native translators favored Gemini over the others. They found Gemini’s analysis to be more balanced and context-aware, particularly in creative or nuanced content. ChatGPT came in second for its fluency, while DeepSeek was rated lowest due to more frequent misjudgments on meaning and tone.
While the Tomedes QA Tool impressed in many areas, our reviewers also saw room for improvement. They appreciated Tomedes’ proactive approach to addressing QA issues, but noted several challenges that still need work. Here are some of the key ones they encountered:
No tool is perfect, and the QA Tool is still evolving.
To quote Livio D'Alessio, Tomedes in-house Italian translator, the QA Tool isn’t without its growing pains, but the progress is clear:
“Some outputs may appear overly prescriptive — a tendency linked to the nature of the data sets used by the AI engines. Tomedes has shown clear responsiveness in addressing these issues; in fact, several reports already reflect a noticeable reduction, or even complete absence, of such overcorrections.”
He and the other translators noted that the tool could improve its handling of untranslated terms. It occasionally flagged proper nouns, trademarks, or formatting placeholders as errors, even when they were correctly left unchanged.
For example, a product name like “Voltis” was flagged even though it should remain in English. Our linguists suggested the tool could better distinguish these cases from true omissions. We’re working on training the AI to be more selective to reduce noise in your reports.
Another challenge was the occasional false flag in the incomplete or missing translation category. This happened when a target sentence was slightly shorter but still complete in meaning. The tool sometimes mistook these for errors, which led to unnecessary corrections.
While the intention is to maintain accurate translations, we understand that brevity does not always mean a mistake. Our developers are tuning the algorithm to factor in contextual equivalence, not just length comparisons. This will make your experience much smoother in future updates.
So, what did the native translators think overall? They agreed that the Tomedes QA Tool shows strong potential, especially as a time-saver for quick audits and secondary checks. It excels at spotting subtle issues that often slip past a single reviewer.
However, they emphasized that the tool is most effective when used alongside human expertise, not as a replacement for it.
As Milagros Gonzalez, Tomedes’ in-house Spanish translator, explains, “The Tomedes QA Tool is especially effective in catching technical issues quickly. That being said, human review is still essential because language has cultural differences, tone, and expressions that depend on the audience.”
She further states, “These aspects need a professional's judgment, which AI alone cannot fully replace. This is the reason why the best workflow is a combination of the QA Tool's speed and accuracy, together with the translator's experience and understanding.”
Whether you’re a freelance translator or managing an LSP team, the tool fits right into your workflow. It gives you fast feedback and lets you customize your review process depending on your standards and your client’s expectations.
At Tomedes, we take feedback seriously. Every insight from our team goes straight into our improvement roadmap. We’re already working on new updates based on this internal evaluation.
Expect smarter AI prompts and better error differentiation in the next version. We’re also enhancing the engine-switching function and refining how each model interprets content. Our goal is to make sure you get the best of both worlds: smart automation and linguistic integrity.
We’re also planning export features like PDF and CSV reports, so you can share results easily with clients or colleagues. These updates will make it easier for you to track performance, meet compliance goals, and maintain accurate translations at scale.
We’d love to hear what you think. Your feedback shapes the future of this tool, just like our team’s did. Let's raise the bar together for professional translations and make accurate translations easier for everyone.
